Gagaty Sołtykowskie ? is a nature reserve where you can see the real traces of dinosaurs from 200 million years ago with your own eyes ?? This attraction is located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship near Skarżysko-Kamienna and Stąporków. A sensation on a global scale are the tracks of both adults and juveniles walking side by side. They were left by herbivorous sauropod dinosaurs and predatory allosaurus dinosaurs. The largest footprint found is 60 cm long and was discovered in 1999. The name Gagaty Sołtykowskie comes from the rare minerals found in this area – jets. Gagat is a bituminous variety of brown coal in black color used in jewelry. The area of Sołtyków is the only place in Poland where jets have been found. The reserve is rich in various species of plants. The most interesting is an insectivorous plant called sundew. There are also water cattails, orchids and clubmoss. Once in this area, ceramic clay was extracted for the needs of the brickyard in nearby Sołtykowo and it lasted until 1977. The remnants of it are heaps, ruins or charming small lakes. The area is swampy in places, but thanks to the built bridges, we can safely go to the place where there are traces of dinosaurs. The route is marked with signs with the direction to the reserve, it starts from the parking lot and takes about 20 minutes one way (about 1km). You can go for a walk with a child in a stroller, although the forest road is fine, but the stroller will do fine 🙂 The place is not very popular yet and there are few people walking around, so it’s perfect for a quiet walk in a forest climate.
